Purchase co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Infrastructure and Environment Program

Jagiellonian University has purchased perpetual licenses of Parametric Technology Corporation's (PTC) Mathcad program for numerical, engineering and symbolic calculations, with a WYSIWYG graphical interface and notation of symbols and formulas using traditional mathematical notation. They include additional specialized modules (toolboxes) in the following areas: signal processing (Signal Processing), image processing (Image Processing ), wavelet analysis (Wavelets), and data analysis (Data Analysis).

About the program ...

Mathcad is a commercial computer algebra program (CAS), with computational capabilities similar to Mathematica or Maple.

A characteristic feature of Mathcad is its ease and intuitiveness of use, with the classic form of writing mathematical expressions using natural algebraic symbols. Even complex calculations and their visualizations can be carried out by the user without programming preparation, and many operations can be carried out with the mouse. The program gives the possibility to compose in WYSIWYG mode active formulas with text, tables, charts and pictures, hide the visibility of elements, etc.

Mathcad, among other things, natively uses and differentiates between upper and lower case letters, superscript and subscript, Greek alphabet, Unicode fonts in expressions. Displays and handles numbers in various formats, including: real, imaginary and complex numbers, vectors and matrices, numbers in decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal systems, numbers in engineering and scientific notation. Performs operations on denominated quantities (including TrueNumbers) with conversion between measurement systems and dimensional validation.

The program supports data exchange as well as integration with databases, spreadsheets, data acquisition and analysis control packages, and scientific and engineering calculation and simulation systems, including CAD, CAM, CAE, FEM, BIM, GIS, among others.

Users are provided with online access to libraries of technical information and tools in the fields of chemistry, nanotechnology, ceramics, polymers, pharmaceuticals, optics, electronics, biochemistry, biotechnology, environmental, civil engineering and technical support (knowledge base, help system, database of ready-to-use calculation sheets, access to physicochemical, mathematical tables, basic formulas, formulas and constants).

Mathcad is used by more than 90% of Fortune 1000 companies, representing a wide range of industries.

A more detailed description of the program can be found on the manufacturer's website www.ptc.com/product/mathcad or the Polish dydtrybutor www.mathcad.pl.

Two versions of Mathcad are currently available: 15.0 and Prime 5.0.

Both versions can be installed and used simultaneously on a single computer. Single-user licenses are supported by a common license file. For Floating licenses, each active program (regardless of version) occupies one parallel session counter position in the license server.

Mathcad dla studentów UJ

Students and doctoral students can access the program on the university's computers in accordance with the licenses listed above in items 1 and 2 in teaching or research laboratories or public computer labs. The possible need to install the program in such places should be reported to the relevant employees or bodies of their departments, institutes.
